Our Sick Manufacturing Industry

Super Pilipinas Nov. 27, 2016

Manufacturing is one aspect of the country that should be given  real focus by the government towards to meet our aim for progress.

The manufacturing sector accounts to about one fourth of the industries in the country, and since it is a major player for our exports, this must be revitalized and strengthened in order to further the goals we dream.

The labor sector is abundant in the country, and since this class of the populace needed particular attention to meet the demands for employment, the national government must create an atmosphere that will make it conducive to make local and foreign investors create more manufacturing areas to absorb this abundance of labor in the country.

The current political condition in the country wrecks havoc to the business climate as this factor is the gauging factor of commerce to make it suitable for the business sector to engage with certainty. This lack of stability in the political condition of the country will result to the downfall of the industry and result to the slowing of the economy. Thus, the needed attention is very much important to be given for the manufacturing sector as immediately possible.

The issue remains if we are competitive
in the manufacturing sector compared with China.

With regards to our China Sea row, it is accepted that we cannot fight China via military confrontation and we should modernize our armed forces in order to face them in the battle line.

But this is not our aim, we dream to fight China head on by the way we conventionally think, or, utmost, we will face them in battle if all options are lost. So, therefore, the only way to do it is to buy time which we shall industrialize our country and acquire the level of economy and wealth like that of China, then, by these means we can have the financial capabilities to spend for the modernization of the armed forces.

This wealth is to have our economy grow by means of greater income through exports and all industries reaching the global and international markets. One area then that we should expand rapidly is the manufacturing sector which we are very weak at the moment.

If China has export volume of 2.4 trillion dollars, record met at 2015, then the possibility of having that record for us is not far to reach out. We should take the culture of positive outlook that the same we can acquire all the successes of China or anyone else equally for the country, for the Filipinos.

If they have 2.3 trillion dollars of exports, so can we. The question if we are competitive against China is possible. It will take only few legislation in order to equally par that of China by meeting the requirements via our political and economic long term policies in the country to make investors, local and abroad rely on the certainty of business future here.  Ther are plenty of aspect to be threshed about, like the labor laws, government rules and regulations, taxes, and other anti business codes and regulations that retard the growth and atmosphere of commerce in the country.

The specialized zones shall be areas where these conditions are favorable with the intentions to equal the conditions as given by China to their foreign investments.

Comparative volumes of exports of Vietnam  17 billion USD, while the Philippines is only 5.7 billion USD in 2015, totally explains why we need to take care and solve our manufacturing conditions for exports. What is surprising here is that we are already overtaken by Vietnam considered as a third world country ravaged by war up to 1975.

Our manufacturing sector and export producing industry is really sick, and we need to resuscitate this sector as soon as possible. We are three folds left behind by Vietnam, and
and way behind 540 times against China.

The Specialized Zones as remedy for the
Manufacturing Sector

The specialized zones in the country must be  real specialized zones. The confronting problems of the business sector at the current is the stiff government regulations imposed to businesses, high taxes, and the labor laws which scares investors and local business men. Not including on top is the wariness on the political condition of the country.

The specialized zones must cancel these bureaucracies, red tape and government regulations, among others that cannot make realize our dream to become an industrialized country.

These specialized zones shall be free zones. They shall be an environment in such a way that both the government and businesses can earn and survive weathering factors in business and economy in the international and global conditions.

These zones must safeguard the wellness and productivity of the sector and gear to become the highest and most active in the region.
